Jon Beckmann was born on October 24, 1936 in New York City. He received a B.A. degree in anthropology from the University
of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in English Literature from New York University. He served as the publisher for Sierra Club Books
from 1973 to 1994. After leaving Sierra Club he established Millennium Press in Sonoma, California. Beckmann died in January,
2013.
